Description

The Decanter Centrifuge for Ceramic Slurry Dewatering is designed for continuous solid-liquid separation, ceramic powder recovery, slurry thickening, and process-water clarification.

It is suitable for ceramic raw material preparation, tile and sanitaryware production, alumina and zirconia slurry processing, kaolin washing, glaze slurry treatment, polishing wastewater recovery, and ceramic-powder-containing process water.

The centrifuge continuously separates ceramic solids from the liquid phase. Thickened slurry can be transferred to a filter press, dryer, storage tank, spray dryer, or further processing section. Clarified liquid can be reused for slurry preparation, washing, grinding, or wastewater treatment.

How the Decanter Centrifuge Works

1. Ceramic Slurry Feeding

Ceramic slurry enters the rotating bowl through a controlled feed pipe.

An agitated slurry tank is normally recommended upstream to prevent settling and maintain stable solids concentration.

2. Centrifugal Sedimentation

Inside the high-speed bowl, centrifugal force separates ceramic solids from the liquid phase.

The denser particles settle against the bowl wall, while clarified liquid remains closer to the center.

3. Continuous Solids Conveying

The internal screw conveyor rotates at a controlled differential speed relative to the bowl.

This movement transports settled ceramic solids toward the conical end for continuous discharge.

4. Clarified Liquid Discharge

The separated liquid leaves through the liquid outlet.

It can be returned to grinding, washing, slurry preparation, a recycle-water tank, or further wastewater treatment.

5. Thickened Ceramic Solids Discharge

The concentrated ceramic solids are discharged continuously from the solids outlet.

Recovered slurry can be sent to a filter press, vacuum filter, dryer, spray dryer, storage tank, or further classification process.

Key Selection Considerations

Particle Size and Fines Content

Fine ceramic powders may remain suspended for a long time. Particle-size distribution and fines content affect recovery efficiency, clarified-liquid quality, and required residence time.

Abrasion Level

Alumina, silica, zirconia, quartz, and similar materials can accelerate wear on the scroll and solids discharge zone. Wear protection should be selected according to the material hardness and operating hours.

Slurry Concentration and Viscosity

A higher solids concentration or viscosity can reduce settling performance and throughput. Stable feed conditions improve separation consistency.

Final Moisture Requirement

A decanter centrifuge is mainly used for continuous thickening and primary dewatering. When lower final moisture is required, it can be combined with a filter press, vacuum filter, spray dryer, or thermal dryer.

Clarified Liquid Requirement

When recycle water must meet strict turbidity or quality standards, the decanter can be combined with settling, polishing filtration, membrane filtration, or other treatment equipment.

Main Advantages

Continuous Ceramic Powder Recovery

The decanter continuously recovers ceramic solids from process slurry, wash water, grinding water, and wastewater without batch interruption.

Wear-Resistant Configuration

Ceramic powders may contain abrasive particles such as alumina, silica, zirconia, quartz, or mineral impurities. Wear-resistant protection can be added to the scroll, feed zone, bowl cone, and solids discharge area.

Stable Operation for Variable Feed

Bowl speed, differential speed, pond depth, and feed rate can be adjusted to handle changing slurry concentration, viscosity, particle size, and throughput.

Process-Water Recycle

Clarified liquid can be reused in the grinding, washing, mixing, or slurry preparation process, helping reduce fresh-water consumption.

Reduced Downstream Load

The centrifuge thickens ceramic slurry before filtration or drying, reducing liquid volume and improving downstream handling efficiency.

What Data Is Needed for Selection?

Please provide the following information for a suitable ceramic slurry dewatering solution:

  • Ceramic material type, such as clay, kaolin, alumina, zirconia, glaze, or silica
  • Particle-size distribution and fine-particle content
  • Slurry solids concentration and viscosity
  • Required processing capacity
  • Required solids recovery rate
  • Target solids concentration after centrifugation
  • Clarified liquid quality and recycle-water requirement
  • Abrasive impurity content
  • Polymer or flocculant currently used
  • Downstream filter press, dryer, spray dryer, or storage arrangement
  • Required material of construction
  • Electrical and control standard

FAQ

Can a decanter centrifuge recover fine ceramic powder?

Yes. It can continuously recover ceramic solids from slurry and process water. For very fine particles, polymer testing or additional clarification equipment may be required.

Is wear protection required for ceramic slurry?

It depends on the material. Alumina, zirconia, silica, quartz, and mineral-containing slurry can be highly abrasive, so wear protection is often recommended.

Can clarified liquid be reused?

Yes. Clarified liquid can often be returned to grinding, washing, slurry preparation, or process-water storage. Further treatment may be required for high-quality reuse.

Can the decanter replace a filter press?

The decanter is suitable for continuous thickening and primary dewatering. A filter press or dryer may still be needed when lower final moisture is required.

Can this system handle ceramic polishing wastewater?

Yes. It can recover ceramic fines from polishing water and reduce the suspended-solids load before wastewater treatment or water recycle.
