The Bag Lifting Centrifuge is designed for the solid-liquid separation, crystal washing, and dewatering of lactose crystals after crystallization.
In lactose production, crystallized slurry typically contains lactose crystals and mother liquor. The centrifuge separates the crystals from the liquid phase, reduces residual mother liquor in the cake, and prepares the product for downstream drying, screening, milling, packaging, or further refining.
The machine is applied after the lactose crystallizer. It does not perform crystallization itself. Its main role is to recover lactose crystals efficiently while maintaining controlled product handling and hygienic operating conditions.
It is suitable for food-grade lactose, refined lactose, lactose monohydrate, whey-derived lactose crystals, and other crystallized dairy products that can form a stable filter cake.
- Food-grade lactose crystal separation
- Lactose monohydrate dewatering
- Whey-derived lactose recovery
- Refined lactose crystal washing
- Lactose production after evaporation crystallization
- Lactose mother liquor separation
- Dairy ingredient processing
- Infant formula-grade lactose processing
- Pharmaceutical excipient lactose production
- Lactose recovery before drying and packaging
- Lactose crystal purification systems
- Dairy by-product recovery projects
Lactose separation requires careful control of mother liquor removal, crystal washing, product recovery, and hygienic handling.
Typical operating challenges include:
- Residual mother liquor affecting lactose purity
- Product loss during manual discharge
- Fragile lactose crystals that may break during handling
- Crystal size variation after crystallization
- Requirement for low residual moisture before drying
- Need for controlled cake washing
- Hygienic production requirements in dairy processing
- Need for easy cleaning between batches
- Requirement for complete batch recovery
- Need to reduce operator contact with the product
The Bag Lifting Centrifuge supports these requirements through batch centrifugal filtration, hygienic design, optional cake washing, controlled spin drying, and bag-lifting discharge.
Peony provides centrifuge equipment and separation support for lactose crystallization, dairy ingredient processing, whey recovery, and food-grade crystal production projects.

Product-contact materials, CIP option, and PLC automation level
The lactose crystal slurry enters the rotating basket lined with a filter bag and supporting filter screen.
Under centrifugal force:
- Mother liquor passes through the filter bag and is collected through the filtrate outlet.
- Lactose crystals are retained inside the basket.
- A crystal cake gradually forms on the inner surface of the filter bag.
- Optional wash liquid is introduced to reduce residual mother liquor and improve crystal purity.
- High-speed rotation removes residual moisture from the lactose crystal cake.
- The machine stops after the programmed cycle is completed.
- The filter bag containing the dewatered lactose cake is lifted through the top discharge section.
- The lactose crystals are collected or transferred to downstream drying, screening, packaging, or further processing equipment.
The complete batch cycle can be controlled through PLC operation to maintain stable filtration, repeatable washing performance, and consistent product handling.

For lactose and dairy ingredient applications, the product-contact design should be selected according to the required food-grade or pharmaceutical-grade standard.
| Component | Typical Configuration |
|---|---|
| Product-contact parts | SS304 or SS316L stainless steel |
| Basket and casing | Polished stainless steel construction |
| Filter bag | Food-grade synthetic filter media or customized material |
| Seals and gaskets | Food-grade EPDM, silicone, PTFE, or FKM |
| Surface finish | Customized according to hygiene and cleanability requirements |
| Cleaning system | Manual cleaning, spray ball cleaning, or CIP configuration |
| Product transfer section | Closed or semi-closed arrangement based on plant layout |
| Optional configuration | Nitrogen protection, explosion-proof motor, load cells, or customized control system |
For applications involving pharmaceutical lactose or infant formula-grade lactose, the product-contact finish, documentation, seal materials, cleaning validation requirements, and sanitary piping details should be confirmed during project design.

Efficient Mother Liquor Removal
The centrifuge separates mother liquor from lactose crystals effectively, helping reduce liquid carryover into downstream drying and packaging systems.
Controlled Crystal Washing
An optional washing system can reduce residual mother liquor and improve lactose purity before final spin drying.
Bag-Lifting Product Discharge
The lifting mechanism raises the filter bag containing the crystal cake, supporting complete batch recovery and reducing manual scraping inside the basket.
Suitable for Hygienic Production
The machine can be configured with sanitary product-contact materials, cleanable surfaces, hygienic seals, and CIP cleaning options.
Lower Cake Moisture
High-speed centrifugal dewatering helps reduce residual moisture before drying, screening, milling, or packaging.
