Prinsip kerja

Mengambil keuntungan dari prinsip bahwa fase cair ringan, cair berat dan padat, dengan kepadatan yang berbeda dan saling tidak larut dalam cairan campuran,mendapatkan kecepatan sedimentasi yang berbeda dalam medan gaya sentrifugal atau medan gaya gravitasi, memisahkan stratifikasi atau menyebabkan partikel padat dalam cairan untuk deposit dapat dicapai.

Dalam medan gaya gravitasi atau medan gaya sentrifugal, fase cair ringan, fase cair berat dan fase padat dengan kepadatan yang berbeda dan saling tidak larut dalam cairan campuran,masing-masing mendapatkan kecepatan sedimentasi yang berbedaDalam medan gaya gravitasi disebut pemisahan gravitasi, sedangkan dalam medan gaya sentrifugal disebut pemisahan sentrifugal.
