The centrifugal force inside a decanter centrifuge can reach up to 4,000 times gravity, greatly shortening separation time compared with gravity settling. Under centrifugal force, heavier solids move outward and settle along the bowl wall, while the less dense liquid forms an inner liquid layer.

Meanwhile, the scroll conveyor rotates at a slight differential speed relative to the bowl, commonly around 5–20 rpm. This differential motion continuously conveys settled solids toward the conical discharge end.

The clarified liquid exits through adjustable weirs. Operators can also adjust pond depth to balance cake dryness and centrate clarity.

Two-Phase Decanter Centrifuge
