The Bag Lifting Centrifuge is designed for harvesting, washing, and dewatering amino acid crystals after purification and crystallization.
In amino acid production, the crystallized slurry typically contains amino acid crystals, mother liquor, residual salts, and soluble impurities. The centrifuge separates the crystals from the mother liquor, supports controlled cake washing, and reduces residual moisture before downstream drying, milling, screening, or packaging.
It is suitable for batch amino acid crystallization processes where crystal recovery, product purity, low product loss, hygienic handling, and reduced cross-contamination are important.
- L-lysine crystal harvesting
- L-glutamic acid crystal separation
- Glycine crystal dewatering
- DL-alanine and L-alanine crystal recovery
- L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine separation
- Methionine crystal harvesting
- Tryptophan crystal separation
- Aspartic acid and related amino acid crystal recovery
- Food-grade amino acid production
- Feed-grade amino acid production
- Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical amino acid intermediate processing
- Amino acid recovery after crystallization and purification
Amino acid crystallization systems often require more than simple liquid removal. The equipment must support product recovery while reducing crystal damage, dissolved product loss, and contamination between batches.
Typical operating challenges include:
- Fine or fragile crystal particles
- Variable crystal size after crystallization
- Residual mother liquor affecting purity
- Product loss during cake washing
- Residual salts or color impurities in the crystal cake
- High-value product recovery requirements
- Hygienic handling requirements
- Need for batch-to-batch consistency
- Frequent product grade changeovers
- Manual unloading and cleaning work
The Bag Lifting Centrifuge addresses these requirements through controlled centrifugal filtration, optional cake washing, gentle bag-lifting discharge, and batch-based PLC operation.
Peony provides centrifuge equipment and separation support for amino acid crystallization, purification, crystal washing, and downstream product recovery projects.
Process Evaluation
Our engineers evaluate:
- Amino acid type and crystal characteristics
- Crystal size and cake-forming behavior
- Slurry solids content and mother liquor properties
- Product purity and wash requirement
- Target cake moisture and downstream drying conditions
Equipment Selection
We help customers select:
- Suitable basket size and batch capacity
- Filter bag material and micron rating
- Filter screen and feed configuration
- Cake washing and spin-drying arrangement
- Bag lifting discharge system
- Product-contact materials, CIP option, and PLC automation level
The amino acid crystal slurry enters the rotating basket lined with a filter bag and supporting filter screen.
Under centrifugal force:
- Mother liquor passes through the filter bag and is collected through the filtrate outlet.
- Amino acid crystals are retained inside the basket.
- A crystal cake gradually forms on the inner surface of the filter bag.
- Optional wash liquid is introduced to reduce residual mother liquor, soluble salts, and other impurities.
- High-speed rotation removes residual moisture from the crystal cake.
- The machine stops after the programmed separation cycle is completed.
- The filter bag containing the dewatered amino acid cake is lifted through the top discharge section.
- The crystals are collected or transferred to drying, screening, milling, packaging, or further purification equipment.
The complete batch cycle can be controlled through PLC operation to maintain stable filtration, repeatable washing performance, and consistent crystal handling.

Improved Crystal Recovery
The filter bag retains the crystal cake during separation and discharge, helping reduce product retention inside the basket and improving total batch recovery.
Controlled Washing With Lower Product Loss
The wash cycle can be adjusted by wash liquid type, temperature, flow rate, and duration. This helps reduce residual salts and mother liquor while avoiding unnecessary dissolution of valuable amino acid crystals.
Gentle Product Discharge
The filter bag is lifted after the separation cycle instead of scraping the cake directly from the basket wall. This supports gentler handling for crystals that may be fragile or sensitive to mechanical damage.
Better Batch Purity Control
Controlled filtration, washing, and spin-drying conditions help maintain more consistent residual mother liquor levels between batches, supporting stable product purity before downstream drying.
Reduced Cross-Contamination Risk
The removable filter bag helps simplify product removal and cleaning. This is useful for facilities handling different amino acid grades, multiple products, or campaign-based production.
Hygienic and Contained Handling
The centrifuge can be configured with sanitary stainless-steel contact surfaces, hygienic seals, enclosed discharge arrangements, and CIP cleaning options for controlled product handling.
For fructose processing, product-contact components should be selected according to food-grade hygiene requirements and cleaning conditions.
| Component | Typical Configuration |
|---|---|
| Product-contact parts | SS304 or SS316L stainless steel |
| Basket and casing | Polished stainless steel construction |
| Filter bag | Food-grade filter media with customized micron rating |
| Seals and gaskets | Food-grade EPDM, silicone, PTFE, or FKM |
| Surface finish | Selected according to cleanability requirements |
| Cleaning system | Manual cleaning, spray-ball cleaning, or CIP configuration |
| Product transfer section | Open, semi-closed, or closed discharge arrangement |
| Optional configuration | Load cells, nitrogen protection, explosion-proof motor, or customized PLC control |
For applications requiring high-purity food ingredients, product-contact finish, filter bag material, cleaning procedure, and hygienic piping details should be confirmed during equipment selection.
