Description
The Scraper Bottom Discharge Centrifuge is designed for crystal separation in mother liquor recycle crystallization loops. It separates crystallized solids from the circulating mother liquor, removes residual liquid from the crystal cake, and discharges the solids automatically through the bottom outlet.
In evaporation and crystallization systems, the mother liquor usually contains dissolved salts, impurities, fine crystals, and process components that still have recovery value. After crystal separation, the filtrate can be returned to the crystallizer, evaporator, dissolution tank, or upstream concentration section according to the process design.
Compared with manual discharge centrifuges, the automatic scraper system reduces operator handling, improves batch consistency, and supports cleaner crystal recovery in recycle crystallization systems.

How the Scraper Bottom Discharge Centrifuge Works in a Mother Liquor Recycle Crystallization Loop
The crystallized slurry enters the rotating basket lined with filter media.
Under centrifugal force:
- Mother liquor passes through the filter medium and is collected through the filtrate outlet.
- Crystals are retained inside the basket and gradually form a filter cake.
- The recovered mother liquor is returned to the crystallization loop, evaporation section, or other designated process stage.
- Optional wash liquid is sprayed onto the cake to reduce residual mother liquor and improve crystal purity.
- High-speed rotation removes residual moisture from the crystal cake.
- The scraper automatically removes the dewatered cake from the basket wall.
- The separated crystals are discharged through the bottom outlet for drying, screening, packaging, reuse, or further treatment.
The complete cycle is controlled through PLC operation to maintain stable separation performance and repeatable mother liquor recovery.

Main Advantages in Mother Liquor Recycle Crystallization Loop
High Mother Liquor Recovery
The centrifuge separates mother liquor from the crystal cake efficiently, helping reduce liquid loss and recover dissolved salts or process components.
Stable Crystal Separation
The filtration basket retains crystals while allowing mother liquor to pass through. This supports stable separation for suitable crystal slurry systems.
Automatic Cake Discharge
The scraper automatically removes the crystal cake after dewatering, reducing manual cleaning and improving batch efficiency.
Optional Cake Washing
A wash system can be integrated to reduce residual mother liquor, soluble impurities, chloride, sulfate, or other contaminants retained in the cake.
Lower Cake Moisture
High-speed spin drying helps reduce residual moisture before downstream drying, screening, packaging, or reuse.
Closed-Loop Process Integration
Recovered mother liquor can be returned to the crystallizer, evaporator, brine tank, or recycle section according to the process design.
Corrosion-Resistant Construction
Wetted parts can be customized in SS304, SS316L, Duplex Stainless Steel, Super Duplex Stainless Steel, titanium, or other suitable materials.
PLC-Controlled Batch Operation
The PLC system can control feeding, filtration, washing, spin drying, scraping, discharge, and safety interlock functions.
Material Selection for Mother Liquor Service
Material selection should be based on salt composition, chloride concentration, sulfate concentration, temperature, pH, organic content, and the required cleaning method.
| Wetted Part | Typical Material Options |
| Basket and casing | SS304, SS316L, Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507 |

What is the role of the centrifuge in a mother liquor recycle crystallization loop?
The centrifuge separates crystals from mother liquor after crystallization. The recovered mother liquor can then be returned to the evaporator, crystallizer, recycle tank, or another designated process section.
Can the centrifuge improve mother liquor recovery?
Yes. By separating liquid from the crystal cake efficiently, the centrifuge helps reduce mother liquor loss and supports recycle operation.
Can the centrifuge wash the crystal cake?
Yes. An optional wash system can spray water, condensate, brine, or another compatible wash medium onto the cake before final spin drying.
What moisture content can be achieved?
Final cake moisture depends on crystal size, cake permeability, slurry solids concentration, mother liquor viscosity, basket speed, and cycle time. A sample test is recommended before confirming a moisture target.
Can the centrifuge handle mixed salts?
It can be suitable when the salt slurry is crystalline, filterable, and able to form a stable cake. For mixed salts with high fines, high organic content, or poor filtration behavior, testing is recommended.
