Description

The Scraper Bottom Discharge Centrifuge is designed for the solid-liquid separation, washing, and dewatering of chlor-alkali salt sludge generated during brine purification.

In a typical chlor-alkali process, raw brine may contain calcium, magnesium, suspended solids, insoluble impurities, silica, iron compounds, and other contaminants. After chemical purification, calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and insoluble salt sludge are formed and must be removed before the brine enters the electrolysis process.

Compared with manual discharge centrifuges, the bottom scraper design reduces operator handling, improves batch consistency, and supports cleaner operation in chlor-alkali brine purification systems.

Typical Chlor-Alkali Salt Sludge Applications
  • Primary brine purification sludge separation
  • Calcium carbonate sludge dewatering
  • Magnesium hydroxide sludge separation
  • Chlor-alkali brine clarification residue treatment
  • Salt sludge washing before disposal or reuse
  • Sodium chloride brine recovery from purification sludge
  • Caustic soda and soda ash precipitation sludge treatment
  • Chlor-alkali wastewater salt recovery systems
  • Membrane-cell chlor-alkali brine treatment units
  • Salt lake brine purification and inorganic salt processing

Why Choose a Scraper Bottom Discharge Centrifuge for Chlor-Alkali Salt Sludge Separation?

Chlor-alkali brine purification sludge often presents several separation challenges:

  • High chloride concentration and corrosion risk
  • Fine calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide particles
  • Variable solids concentration caused by brine quality fluctuation
  • Need to recover sodium chloride brine from the sludge
  • Requirement for cake washing to reduce residual salt and alkali
  • High labor intensity with manual cake removal
  • Need for enclosed and cleaner handling in brine treatment areas
  • Requirement for stable, repeatable batch separation performance

The Scraper Bottom Discharge Centrifuge addresses these requirements through centrifugal filtration, optional cake washing, automatic scraper discharge, and PLC-controlled batch operation.

How the Scraper Bottom Discharge Centrifuge Works in Chlor-Alkali Salt Sludge Separation

The chlor-alkali salt sludge slurry is fed into the rotating basket lined with filter media.

Under centrifugal force:

  1. The sodium chloride brine passes through the filter medium.
  2. Calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and insoluble sludge are retained inside the basket.
  3. A filter cake gradually forms on the inner surface of the basket.
  4. Optional wash liquid is sprayed onto the cake to reduce residual salt, alkali, or soluble impurities.
  5. High-speed rotation removes residual moisture from the cake.
  6. The scraper automatically removes the dewatered cake from the basket wall.
  7. The separated salt sludge is discharged through the bottom outlet.

The complete batch cycle is automatically controlled through PLC operation to ensure stable and repeatable separation performance.

Material Selection for Chlor-Alkali Brine Service

Chlor-alkali salt sludge normally contains chloride-rich brine, alkali, carbonate, and suspended solids. Material selection should be based on chloride concentration, operating temperature, pH, oxidizing conditions, and cleaning chemicals.

Wetted Part
Typical Material Options
Basket and casing SS316L, Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507
Filter support structure SS316L or Duplex Stainless Steel
Scraper assembly SS316L, Duplex Stainless Steel, or customized alloy
Brine contact piping SS316L, Duplex, PTFE-lined steel, or customized material
Seals and gaskets PTFE, EPDM, FKM, or chemical-resistant customized materials
High-corrosion applications Titanium or special alloy materials, if required

For high-chloride and elevated-temperature conditions, Duplex or Super Duplex Stainless Steel may be more suitable than standard stainless steel.

Main Advantages in Chlor-Alkali Salt Sludge Separation

Efficient Brine Recovery

The centrifuge separates sodium chloride brine from the salt sludge and helps reduce brine loss during purification sludge treatment.

Automatic Cake Discharge

The scraper mechanism automatically removes the cake after dewatering, reducing manual cleaning and handling work.

Optional Cake Washing

A wash liquid system can be integrated to reduce residual sodium chloride brine, alkali, carbonate, or other soluble impurities in the cake.

Lower Cake Moisture

High-speed centrifugal dewatering helps reduce residual moisture before downstream handling, drying, disposal, or reuse.

Enclosed Batch Operation

The closed structure supports cleaner operation and reduces splashing in chlor-alkali brine purification areas.

Corrosion-Resistant Construction

Wetted parts can be customized in SS316L, Duplex Stainless Steel, Super Duplex Stainless Steel, titanium, or other special materials.

PLC-Controlled Operation

The complete operating sequence can be automatically controlled, including feeding, filtering, washing, spinning, scraping, discharge, and alarm protection.
