Product Description
Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Algae Oil Recovery
Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Algae Oil Recovery 0
Description

The Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Algae Oil Recovery continuously separates recovered algae oil, aqueous liquid, and concentrated biomass solids from conditioned algae slurry.

It is suitable for microalgae oil production, cell-disruption slurry treatment, fermentation residues, solvent-assisted extraction processes, and algae biomass dewatering before downstream purification.

Typical Applications
  • Microalgae oil recovery
  • Cell-disrupted algae slurry separation
  • Algae fermentation broth treatment
  • Lipid-rich biomass processing
  • Solvent-assisted oil extraction
  • Algae protein and solids recovery
  • Process-water clarification
  • Biomass sludge concentration
  • Pretreatment before oil polishing
  • Biofuel feedstock preparation

Algae Slurry Challenges

Algae cells and cell fragments are small and slow-settling. High centrifugal force and stable feeding improve solids capture.

Stable Oil-Water Emulsions

Proteins, lipids, and cell debris may stabilize emulsions. Heating, enzymes, pH adjustment, or demulsifier dosing may be required.

Intracellular Oil

The centrifuge cannot release oil enclosed inside intact cells. Cell disruption or upstream extraction is required first.

Variable Feed Properties

Algae species, solids concentration, oil content, viscosity, and cultivation conditions can affect separation performance.

Solvent and Hygiene Requirements

Solvent-containing feeds may require gas-tight, explosion-proof construction. Food or nutraceutical applications require sanitary materials and cleaning systems.

  • CIP cleaning
  • PLC and dual-VFD control

How the Decanter Centrifuge Works

1. Conditioned Slurry Feeding

Conditioned algae slurry enters the rotating bowl.

Agitation maintains stable solids and oil distribution.

2. Solids Sedimentation

Centrifugal force moves algae cells, cell debris, and dense particles toward the bowl wall.

A concentrated biomass layer forms.

3. Oil-Water Separation

The lighter algae oil remains closer to the bowl center.

The heavier aqueous phase forms a separate outer liquid layer.

4. Continuous Solids Conveying

The screw conveyor transports settled biomass solids toward the conical end.

The solids discharge continuously.

5. Three-Phase Discharge

Recovered oil and aqueous liquid leave through separate outlets.

Biomass solids discharge continuously for further processing.

FAQ

Can the centrifuge extract oil directly from intact algae cells?

No. The cells normally require disruption, fermentation, enzymatic treatment, or solvent extraction before three-phase separation.

Can it process both microalgae and macroalgae?

Possibly. Feed particle size, fiber content, oil concentration, and pretreatment method must be evaluated.

Can it separate a stable algae oil emulsion?

Stable emulsions may require heating, enzymes, pH adjustment, or another conditioning step before centrifugation.

Is it suitable for solvent-assisted algae oil extraction?

Yes, with compatible seals, closed construction, solvent-resistant materials, and explosion-proof equipment when required.

Can the separated biomass be reused?

Possibly. Protein content, solvent residue, moisture, contamination, and downstream product requirements should be checked.
