  • Connection to filter press, dryer, storage tank, or wastewater treatment system

How the Decanter Centrifuge Works

1. Talc Slurry Feeding

Talc slurry enters the rotating bowl through a controlled feed pipe.

An agitated slurry tank is normally recommended upstream to prevent settling and maintain stable feed concentration.

2. Centrifugal Sedimentation

Inside the high-speed rotating bowl, centrifugal force separates talc solids and fine mineral particles from the liquid phase.

The solids move outward and form a layer against the bowl wall, while clarified liquid remains closer to the center.

3. Continuous Solids Conveying

The internal screw conveyor rotates at a controlled differential speed relative to the bowl.

This movement transports settled talc solids toward the conical end for continuous discharge.

4. Clarified Liquid Discharge

The separated liquid leaves through the liquid outlet.

It can be returned to washing, grinding, classification, process-water recycle, or further wastewater treatment.

5. Thickened Talc Solids Discharge

The concentrated talc solids are discharged continuously from the solids outlet.

Recovered talc slurry can be transferred to a filter press, dryer, storage tank, regrinding system, or further classification process.

Key Selection Considerations

Particle Size and Fine Content

Fine talc particles may settle slowly, especially when the slurry contains clay or ultrafine mineral solids. Particle-size distribution should be checked before selection.

Flake-Like Particle Shape

Talc particles often have a plate-like or flaky structure. This may affect slurry flowability, cake formation, and solids discharge behavior.

Slurry Concentration and Viscosity

High solids concentration or high viscosity may reduce throughput. Stable feeding helps maintain consistent separation performance.

Impurity Content

Quartz, silica, sand, carbonate minerals, and clay content can affect wear, separation efficiency, and clarified-water quality.

Flocculant Compatibility

Flocculant may improve fine-particle capture and liquid clarity. Slurry testing is recommended before confirming the dosing system.

Main Advantages

Continuous Talc Powder Recovery

The decanter continuously recovers fine talc solids from washing water, grinding slurry, and classification overflow, helping reduce product loss.

Stable Slurry Thickening

Bowl speed, differential speed, pond depth, and feed rate can be adjusted according to slurry concentration, particle size, viscosity, and required recovery rate.

Process-Water Recycle

Clarified liquid can be reused in washing, grinding, classification, or slurry preparation, helping reduce fresh-water consumption and wastewater discharge.

Lower Downstream Load

The centrifuge thickens talc slurry before filter pressing or drying, reducing liquid volume and improving downstream handling efficiency.

Optional Wear Protection

Talc itself is relatively soft, but the slurry may contain quartz, silica, sand, or other hard mineral impurities. Wear protection can be added where required.

What Data Is Needed for Selection?

Please provide the following information for a suitable talc slurry recovery solution:

  • Talc process stage

FAQ

Can a decanter centrifuge recover fine talc powder?

Yes. It can continuously recover fine talc solids from washing water, grinding slurry, and classification overflow.

Is wear protection necessary?

It depends on the impurity content. If the talc slurry contains quartz, silica, sand, or other abrasive minerals, wear protection is recommended.

Can clarified liquid be reused?

Yes. Clarified liquid can often be returned to washing, grinding, classification, or slurry preparation.

Is flocculant dosing required?

Not always. It depends on particle size, fine content, slurry concentration, and clarified-water target.

Can the decanter replace a filter press?

The decanter is mainly used for continuous thickening and primary dewatering. A filter press or dryer may still be needed when lower final moisture is required.
