How the Decanter Centrifuge Works
1. Barite Slurry Feeding
Barite slurry enters the rotating bowl through a controlled feed pipe.
An agitated slurry tank is normally recommended upstream to prevent settling and maintain stable feed concentration.
2. Centrifugal Sedimentation
Inside the high-speed rotating bowl, centrifugal force separates barite particles from the liquid phase.
The heavier barite solids settle against the bowl wall, while clarified liquid remains closer to the center.
3. Continuous Solids Conveying
The internal screw conveyor rotates at a controlled differential speed relative to the bowl.
This movement transports settled barite solids toward the conical end for continuous discharge.
4. Clarified Liquid Discharge
The separated liquid leaves through the liquid outlet.
It can be returned to washing, grinding, classification, process-water recycle, or further wastewater treatment.
5. Thickened Barite Solids Discharge
The concentrated barite solids are discharged continuously from the solids outlet.
Recovered barite slurry can be transferred to a filter press, dryer, storage tank, regrinding system, or further classification process.

Particle Size and Fine Content
Fine barite particles affect recovery rate, clarified-liquid quality, and centrifuge throughput. Particle-size distribution should be checked before selection.
Slurry Density and Settling Behavior
Barite is a high-density mineral. Feed concentration, settling speed, and slurry stability should be considered when selecting the bowl size and differential speed.
Abrasion Condition
Barite slurry may contain hard impurities such as quartz, silica, or sand. Wear-resistant protection is recommended for long-term operation.
Flocculant Compatibility
Flocculant may improve fine-particle capture and clarified-water quality. Slurry testing is recommended before confirming dosing type and dosage.
Water Recycle Requirement
If clarified liquid will be reused directly in washing or grinding, the required suspended-solids level should be confirmed.
Continuous Barite Solids Recovery
The decanter continuously recovers barite solids from washing water, grinding slurry, and classification overflow, helping reduce product loss.
Suitable for High-Density Mineral Slurry
Barite slurry can settle quickly and may cause feed fluctuation. A controlled feed system and adjustable centrifuge settings help maintain stable separation.
Process-Water Recycle
Clarified liquid can be reused in washing, grinding, and slurry preparation, reducing fresh-water consumption and wastewater discharge.
Wear-Resistant Configuration
Barite slurry may contain quartz, sand, silica, and other abrasive mineral impurities. Wear protection can be added to the scroll, feed zone, bowl cone, and discharge area.
Lower Downstream Load
The centrifuge thickens barite slurry before filter pressing or drying, reducing liquid volume and improving downstream handling efficiency.

Can a decanter centrifuge recover fine barite powder?
Yes. It can continuously recover fine barite solids from washing water, grinding slurry, and classification overflow. Final performance depends on particle size, slurry concentration, and clarified-water target.
Is wear protection necessary?
It is usually recommended, especially when the slurry contains quartz, silica, sand, or other abrasive mineral particles.
Can clarified liquid be reused?
Yes. Clarified liquid can often be returned to washing, grinding, classification, or slurry preparation. Further polishing treatment may be added if stricter water quality is required.
Can the decanter replace a filter press?
The decanter is mainly used for continuous thickening and primary dewatering. A filter press or dryer may still be used when lower final moisture is required.
Is flocculant dosing required?
Not always. It depends on fine-particle content, settling behavior, required recovery rate, and clarified-water quality.
