Product Description
Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Corn Germ Oil Recovery
Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Corn Germ Oil Recovery 0
Description

The Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Corn Germ Oil Recovery continuously separates recovered corn germ oil, aqueous liquid, and concentrated solids from conditioned process slurry or oil sludge.

It is suitable for corn wet-milling plants, germ-oil extraction facilities, crude corn oil clarification, degumming sludge treatment, and oil recovery from tank residues.

Typical Applications
  • Corn germ pressing residue treatment
  • Crude corn germ oil clarification
  • Germ slurry oil recovery
  • Degumming sludge separation
  • Tank-bottom oil recovery
  • Corn meal and fiber-fines removal
  • Filter residue treatment
  • Oily process-water pretreatment
  • Oil refinery sludge reduction
  • Pretreatment before oil polishing

Corn Germ Oil Process Challenges

Fine Germ and Meal Solids

Germ particles, meal fines, fiber, and filter aid may remain suspended in the oil.

Screening and stable feeding help improve solids removal.

Gum and Protein Emulsions

Phospholipids, proteins, and fine solids can stabilize the oil-water interface.

Heating or suitable conditioning may be required before separation.

Variable Feed Composition

Oil, water, and solids ratios may change between pressing, extraction, storage, and refining stages.

Adjustable speeds and phase-interface control help maintain stable operation.

Oil Loss in Solids

Incorrect operating settings may increase residual oil in the discharged solids.

Feed rate, temperature, bowl speed, and differential speed should be optimized.

Food-Grade Requirements

Wetted parts, seals, surface finish, and cleaning systems should meet edible-oil processing requirements.

How the Decanter Centrifuge Works

1. Conditioned Feed

Screened and conditioned corn germ slurry or oil sludge enters the rotating bowl.

Agitation maintains uniform temperature and solids concentration.

2. Solids Sedimentation

Centrifugal force moves germ fines, fiber, meal particles, and dense impurities toward the bowl wall.

A concentrated solids layer forms.

3. Oil-Water Separation

The lighter corn germ oil remains closer to the bowl center.

The heavier aqueous phase forms a separate outer liquid layer.

4. Continuous Solids Conveying

The screw conveyor transports settled solids toward the conical discharge end.

Concentrated solids discharge continuously.

5. Three-Phase Discharge

Recovered oil and aqueous liquid leave through separate outlets.

The solids discharge continuously for recovery or further treatment.

FAQ

Can the centrifuge recover oil from corn germ pressing residues?

Yes. The feed should first be screened and conditioned to maintain stable flow and solids concentration.

Can it treat crude corn germ oil tank sludge?

Yes. It can recover oil while separating water, germ fines, gums, and sediment.

How can oil loss in discharged solids be reduced?

Stable feed temperature, suitable differential speed, correct phase interface, and controlled throughput help reduce oil loss.

Can it separate gum-rich corn oil sludge?

Yes, but highly stable emulsions may require heating, pH adjustment, or other conditioning before centrifugation.

Can recovered oil enter refining directly?

Possibly. Moisture, phosphorus, solids, free fatty acids, and color should be checked before further refining.
