Describtion

 

Decanter centrifuge is a specialized industrial centrifuge used for the separation of solids and liquids from a suspension or slurry. It is a highly efficient and versatile machine commonly employed in various industries such as wastewater treatment, oil and gas, chemical, food and beverage, and mining.

 

Decanter centrifuge operates on the principle of sedimentation and centrifugal force. It consists of a rotating cylindrical bowl and a screw conveyor, also known as the scroll, inside the bowl. The suspension or slurry is fed into the bowl through an inlet, and due to the high rotational speed, the centrifugal force causes the denser solids to settle on the bowl wall while the lighter liquid phase forms a clear liquid layer.

The scroll inside the bowl rotates at a slightly lower speed than the bowl, thereby moving the settled solids towards the conical end of the bowl. The screw conveyor continuously transports the separated solids, also called the cake, to the discharge ports, where they are expelled from the centrifuge. Meanwhile, the clarified liquid, known as the centrate, overflows from adjustable weirs or nozzles and is collected for further processing or discharge.

 

Decanter centrifuges offer several advantages. They provide efficient solid-liquid separation, allowing for the removal of fine particles and achieving high clarity in the liquid phase. They can handle a wide range of feed materials with varying solid concentrations and particle sizes. Decanter centrifuges are also capable of continuous operation, making them suitable for large-scale industrial applications.

These centrifuges can be equipped with various features and options to enhance their performance, such as variable speed control, adjustable weir plates, and different types of scroll designs. Additionally, advanced models may include automated controls, monitoring systems, and safety features to ensure reliable and safe operation.
